I am currently in the process of starting up my own home based t-shirt business located in British Columbia.
I have completed all the 'legal drama' part - and now I am in the process of purchasing equipment.
So far, I think I need the following:
*heat press (I am interested in the Stahl's Mighty Press 15x15 Clamshell-but open to other ideas)
*transfer paper (white/dark)
*t-shirts
*'T-Square'
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE-send me any ideas, contact information, websites or any other great feedback to start me in the right direction. I am open to any comments and would love if you could help me out!
I am in the process of doing all the legal stuff regarding my business, but so far I don't know what the process of getting a business license. I am from Burnaby, BC. Did you get a business license from your city?
Not sure how it is in B.C but in Manitoba you first have to do a name reservation to make sure the business name you are choosing is not already taken, here you can do it online. Then once that is ok'd here you can print off forms online, fill them out then send to government and a few weeks later get your resellers permit in the mail which here is your pst #.Cost around $90 total.Get your gst # if you are going to be doing over $30,000 for the year.
Check out Joto as someone else said, imagecreations.ca in Alberta, starline pacific in B.C., tropicalgraphics.ca in Ont.
CanExplorer: The city of burnaby called me so they can inspect my house. They mentioned that I can not print the shirts at home, I should have someone print the shirts for me if I have to sell it. The point of my business is concentrated on Heat Press only. I want to press do shirts at home as well. How do i get a business license with the set-up I wanted? Thanks.
I don't know the city rules of Burnaby. But no problems in New Westminster. You want to do heat transfer, there is no any pollution. Why they told you not? Go to city hall, tell them you need a license. Tell them all the by-product is paper!
For sure, many cities don't like heat presses in residential zones. Once they get hold of you, it's difficult to circumvent it (if you want to be a bonafide business).

You can also try calling RB Digital in Richmond. I purchase quite a bit of my Cuttable and Printable Media from them. Give me a PM if you need any help with transfers.
