Default Any Canadians shipping to US?

Hey all,
Are there any Canadians out there who sell on the web and ship to the US? If a guy orders a couple of tees for example - what's the cheapest way to get them to the US? There is no duty on made in Canada items but state tax at the port of entry would be payable. I can mail it as a "gift" - value less than $50 but Canada Post quotes $22!!!!! for a couple of pounds going to the midwest for example. Is that nutty or what?

Just wondered how my fellow canucks do it...

We mail 1 or two t-shirts in a 10x15 envelope. Keep it under 500 grams and you can send it "small packet air" for about $5.50. Canada Post anywhere in the US.

That's seems pretty do-able. I also signed up for a VentureOne card for businesses through Canada Post and that saves you up to 8%.
Thanks Greg. Hey, you're almost my neighbour! I'm in Surrey.

Yeah, compared to the US we really suck in the mail department. I haven't found a cheaper alternative. I have a larger US customer interested in my line and shipping (especially faster shipping) by courier is an expensive pain in the butt. I live near the border and could theoretically clear customs into the US myself and then UPS orders from there, which is ok for large orders, but what about small orders? The border lineup is horrific unless you go in the middle of the night!

What we do in another business we have, is mail/take/truck a large batch of items to our warehouse storage unit south of the line and have them picked and shipped by our shipper there. But then you have a picking fee + storage rental (which can work if you move lots of stock I guess). The picking/packing fee is something like $2.00 per order + reasonable envelope/box cost. The storage was fairly cheap I think.
This works out nicely because we just email our shipper with the item number/colour and they pack/send it and send the tracking # to the customer and us. I don't do have to do much except make sure they have sufficient stock. I've never tried to work out if that's any cheaper in the long run, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was. It sure is less work eventually.

Anyway, that's the best I've come up with so far...

what i usually do is take suitcases full of t-shirts, all of them are packed in poly bags...

i tell the cashier lady that all 50 of these t-shirts are same size and weight ... but i put the lightest ones on top which can go through that frame as a letter post...

she weights one of them and multiply the number of t-shirrts to be shipped... since it costs $3.40 if package is less then 200g to anywhere in USA... so she just multiply 3.40 x 50-60 and thats it... all the 3xl and 4xl are also gone in letter post lol

once it leaves the post office, your good to go, i know its not very ethical but you can save your trip to US
