| CP hurting my conversion rate? I have recently started selling tees through Cafe Press. (I had been selling more bags and belt buckles for several years but got sick of dealing with fulfillment so I switch to doing tees through CP.) I set up a script to track shopping cart clicks and I have what seems to be a very high shopping cart rate abandon. (Like 20 shopping cart abandons/day on average.) Only about 1 in 10 (or less) of the people who put things in their shopping cart through my site actually check out.
I am concerned that these people like my designs but then when they see the Cafe Press thing they bail, not wanting to get a CP shirt. I am not sure if I should switch to another service or maybe do my site through a cart like zencart and then enter my orders manually through my CP account to get them filled (this would also be nice because I could offer coupons any time I want).
Any one have any experience comparing shopping cart abandon rates with and without CP or have thoughts on this. You can view my shop at ex-boyfriendcollection.com

| Re: CP hurting my conversion rate? I don't know if my site before compares well since it was a custom shopping cart and I mostly sold belt buckles and messenger bags instead of tshirts. My site before had a cart abandon rate of around 25% on average. Now it is at least 90% which seems high to me. The reason I suspect CP is to blame is that CP used to do really crappy heat press shirts that no one liked. Now they do DTG, but so many people associate them with cheap iron ons, which I worry is what they expect they'll get, and why they do not check out. | |

Sure, some people know, but I think it might be a stretch to say that a lot of the customers that are shopping on your site know who CafePress is (or was).
How are you tracking people that put something in their shopping cart at CafePress?
At what point are they bailing?
With the added volume of products that you can offer through CP, it could be that there are more people who are "browsing" or "curious" than what you had before.
By the way, what script are you using to check shopping cart abandonment?

| Re: CP hurting my conversion rate? As Rodney said doubt it is the CafePress history, if they knew it and it bothered them they would most likely not look, let alone add the item to the cart | |

| Re: CP hurting my conversion rate? To clarify, the way my site is set up, it's not obvious it is Cafe Press (unless you're familiar with what Cafe Press run stores look like) until you add something to your cart/check out. So yes, it is very possible someone was looking at my site, added something to the cart that they wanted to buy, saw it was going to be made by CP and then bailed because they do not think they will get a quality shirt from CP.
How am I tracking people put something in their cart:
I have an AJAX/PHP script that I wrote that tells me when some one adds something to their shopping cart and it tells me how they found my site. I did this so I could track conversions. All of the shopping cart abandons are from people who found my site through my ads, they did not find me through CP. They came to my site from an ad I had, added something to their cart, then bailed before checking out.

| Re: CP hurting my conversion rate? OK that makes a bit more sense now in what you are asking. I guess the only way to really know (short of contacting them if possible) is to do what you have suggested. Set up your own site then just enter them in the CP site after | |
