Default Any thoughts on CP's new embroidery option?

I was just wondering if anybody has any thoughts on the recent announcement that CP is offering new products with an embroidery option.

I have placed my order already for the ladies jacket and a cap. As soon as they arrive I will document my findings and try to get some pics posted. So far on the CP forums people are cautiously optimistic. One person posted a series of great pics, but it was of a sample sent to them from CP. I want to see an actual ShopKeeper design. I of course am doing my logo (it is the pic in my T-shirt Sig). Anyone else have any actual embroidered products in hand yet?

It will be interesting to see if they can align the border of your logo correctly. Something they don't actually recommend.

I am finding it hard to be creative with such a little space. I am used to designing funny t-shirts and none of them transfer well to the size of the patches. I have done a few with more basic designs, and I will see if they sell and are worth continuing to do.

I have the feeling these won't sell as Cafepress is hoping. (Prison style jean shirts? I used to have to wear those to my lousy mall job.) I probably shouldn't complain because at least they are not another lame political sign or sticker, which seemed to be the only new products they would ever add before.

I hope their next line of products will be stuff my regular designs will fit on. Like more bags, jackets, lunchboxes, purses, or backpacks.

My embroidered items have Shipped! I will post pics as soon as they arrive...

and regarding the product offering. Why a burgandy cap? I feel that only one color offered for a cap is pretty weak. Thy army cap is ok, but again, one color? I feel that not only is the design space limiting, but the product offering is very, very limiting.

So what are they doing exactly? Is it not a digitized design that's then sewn on to a garment or cap?

It is a pre-embroidered patch of white thread, and they then print your design on it in ink. I ordered two items, and I am really happy with the look, as it does look embroidered. However, I agree that the size is very limiting, and there are just a few product choices.

Since this is such a new process, I see lots of potential. If they can figure out a way to embroider in different shapes and sizes, then this will open up a world of new products.

Oh, ok. Well that explains a lot. I definitely commend them for thinking outside the box.
