Hi
I just received an order of 3 black shirts with transfer designs from Cafepress and all 3 have huge halos of glossy residue on them. I gather from this forum that this means they didn't trim the transfers before applying them. Is there any way to remove this residue, or am I stuck with it? If I'm stuck with it, I'll return the shirts. Very disappointed if that's the case.
To my knowledge CafePress does not use heat transfers. It, most likely, is the pretreatment for DTG printing on dark shirts. It should come out on the first wash.

THanks in advance for the advice.
I think the residue that you see might be the "pretreatment" for the Direct to Garment printing that they do.
All black t-shirts printed with a DTG printer require a pretreatment to be applied.
It's possible that the pretreatment was not properly applied and that you may need to get your t-shirts reprinted.
Did you get a little note in your order telling you about the black shirts? I have ordered black shirts and a note inside explained about the "residue" and how to wash/care for your dark colored shirts. And it will come out after the first washing.
No little note included in the package, and cafepress rep said the excess ink will not wash out. I washed them once and it did remove some. Will see if a second wash does the trick.

Thanks for the reply.
Well, that stinks! Sorry to hear it didn't come out for you. Hopefully with a 2nd wash it will. Good thing they have the satisfactory guarantee, huh?
