Starting new business need ideas on hiring employees
Re: Starting new business need ideas on hiring employees
Hi,
Welcome to the forum & good luck w/your business! Do you have a store or are you doing this online? If you have a store w/business and you're making enough money to cover your overhead, etc. Then perhaps you can afford to hire a full-timer. However, don't break the bank trying to pay someone & you don't have the business to support the expense. Are you working another job during the day? If not, what are you doing that you can't be there?
Re: Starting new business need ideas on hiring employees
I will be here full time. 9am-6pm are our business hours. I personally will be here a lot more hours. We have one 10 station 8 color automatic "M&R" and one 6 station manual "Riley Hopkins" I am just learning how to screenprint so my skills are not up to par as of yet.
I need to hire an experienced screenprinter so I can be sure the clothing going out is satisfactory with industry standards. So I'm trying to figure out the best approach into this.
Thanks for your help.
Re: Starting new business need ideas on hiring employees
The way I did it for a while was to hire someone hourly, part time. It was nice because if I knew there was work coming in for the next week I could bring them in, and on slow weeks they would be free to do other things. The problem with that was that I needed to constantly check my calendar and schedule jobs so that I could call them in advance to come in, and there were times that I needed help on short notice and they were not available.
If you can afford a full-time worker and are confident that you can grow the business quickly to support them, I'd go with that from the beginning. If you are good at scheduling and can handle planning out when you'll need help in advance, then part-time would work for you.
Another option is to have someone come in on scheduled days - like mon, wed, and fri. only - so you know ahead of time when you'll have help and can schedule jobs accordingly.

Oh, I understand. Yeah, that would help if you're not experienced in doing the work. Yeah, I like the idea Aaron has about hiring someone on an hourly basis. If I lived in CA...I would come and work for you!
Re: Starting new business need ideas on hiring employees

Who's going to do your artwork?
Will you do customer walkins( Pics of a dog for 2 shirts)

honestly, in my opinion not the best idea.Starting out without a base of solid work amount of business under your belt having a full time employee is a huge risk. Benefits and all that **** is not worth it starting out, way to much invested there. I would look into hiring someone as a sub-contractor to work in your shop. This allows them to be responsible for everything from filing to insurance and such.

Understand fully what you are saying. It is a risk. I do have complete faith in this businesses success though. Advertising is about to be off the charts for business & with that I believe business will have enough "if not too much" work. Thank you for your advice. It is completely correct.

Hire and experienced screenprinter. Hire them from another screenprinter.
Find a college student for sales. Work out a commission based on the order/client.
Spend your time learning and working in the business.
