Default Advice for selling a water based screen printing shop?

Hello,

I run a screen printing shop (Casualtee) and I am looking into the possibility of selling it and going back to school to finish my degree. I need all the advice I can get for selling my business, how to find a buyer, etc.

I have been doing all water based screen printing, have good repeat business year round, have been steadily growing for the last 5 years or so. I run a Tuf automatic press, and the shop runs smoothly. My website is ranked well with Google and pulls in a few new orders every week, I do very little marketing outside of that and I have been staying busy and making good money.

On top of that I know that the business has a lot of potential beyond what I have done with it.

Thanks in advance for any help!

I would question why you would want to sell if you are doing that well....but never the less here are the two things I thought of when I read your post:

1. Don't sell, but hire someone to run it. Even if you don't make a ton of money you will make some and still will have it in the future.

2. Sell it to someone that just wants to invest and you could stay on part-time or full-time. Unless you are loaded that will help cover the cost of school.

But to answer you question:

1. I would list it on Craigs List, because when I search it for equipment I have seen some businesses for sell.
2. I would list it on your website, because of all the activity you are getting.
3. I would list it on digitsmith.com.

I would find a broker or ask other local print shops. I would NOT post on public forums that your business is for sale as your customers or potential customers may find the posts and be timid to order from you in the time being.

I also checked out your website just last night through google adwords I think. lol

That is one reason why I am looking for advice. I am hesitant to sell to just anyone. I would want someone who I know would take care of my current customers, with a solid customer service team and keep the production quality high. That's the main reason I am doing so well right now, it's the customer service and quality we put out.

Got friends or family interested? Maybe you can charge them "business rent" to operate the business from you.

Do you run it yourself or do you have employees?

I have one full time employee who does production, and I do office work (customer service, book keeping, etc) and artwork.

He ran it when I was in school last year, but now he has decided to go back to school as well in January which is what prompted the idea to sell the business.
