 dba Question
Hello, I am new to this forum - although I have been reading up on all the valuable information for quite sometime.
Long story short ... I am a designer and I have worked from home for over 10 years bringing in a part-time salary. My main source of income was from design magazines. I have lost all of my steady work due to the decline in ad sales. Last year I did a few vinyl banners and artwork for our camper. This opened my eyes into possibly taking my business in a new direction.
My question is ... I now work under the name "Kozik Media". I would like to run my sign business under a different name. Would it be best to operate as Kozik Media dba "new business name"? Or just start the new business from scratch. Also, do I need to file as a fictitious name for the new business since it will not contain my first or last name?
I have an EIN number for my current business, would I also need one for the new business name? I assume I would not.
