Thumbs up Re: Getting Started

reyrey,

That's a very good question. What you need is information. As entreprenuers, we wear many hats, so put your "market researcher" hat on.

You need to identify exactly what it is you need. Do you need additional stitch work? Is heat press or screen printing the desired process, or is DTG printing more cost effective? Do you need custom sizes, colors, styles, or materials?

Once you've answered these questions, Google could become your new best friend. Visit websites that cater to your needs and find out how much it costs to do what you want to do. Don't forget to call some local businesses, too, provided they can serve your needs. Take the highest, lowest, and middle cost, figure the average for each expense per month (supplies, materials, rent if you want a brick-and-mortar store, etc.), multiply by 12, and add at least 10%.

That's a start.

It really depends on both what you're trying to do and (even more important) what skills you have.

If you can't do your own design, things are going to be a lot more expensive.

As a rough guideline, I think $1000-$5000 is a good goal for a small startup.

It can be done on less (with difficulty), and obviously the more the better. But in that range you'll have enough to cover some basics like business cards, a short run of shirts to sell, etc.

Your going to be looking at arround 1000-5000, just like stated above. Another expense you need to look at is your marketing costs... now you can do all free advertising on forums and other online sources, but you will look to be spending 10-15% of your profits on marketing. Its hard to say how much it will cost you, but 1000-5000 is a good start.

"a short run of shirts to sell" I am starting an athletic brand and with my very thin line of products I feel very amateur but at the same time I have been blowing big time money just to get a 10 item product line. This is a money pitfall for me!

5k should get your a website, 4-8 designs and 300-500 shirts.

Variables are if you do the t-shirt design yourself, re-label, t-shirt quality, # of ink colors, etc.
