Default I think I have the TM/CR thing figured out

We have a logo with our name in the logo- that needs a trademark

Our designs for the shirts will need a copyright

Our website will need a copyright.

My other question is about graphic design. We are not artistically inclined. We hired a graphic artist to create our logo and images for shirts. Do we have full rights because we paid for them? Thanks

Yes, as part of the agreemet you sign with the artist should stipulate that all works are 'contract for hire and will remain those of the company.' Although I'm not an attorney, if you use standard character format for the TM of your name that will allow you to use your name in whatever format and/or logo design you want. Nonetheless, if you copyright everything then you'll definitely be covered.

What do you mean by the character? It is a certain font that our name is in.

Standard character means that you are not trade marking a specific style, rather you are trademarking the name in whatever font, style or format you choose. For example, let's same your name was TeeShirt but you had it in a particular font. When you file just use 'standard character,' i.e. TeeShirt that way you can place that in whatever font you choose and not be limited to one logo and/or style
