Hello everyone,

I want to trademark my name and logo this month.

I had a question regarding where everyone got it trademarked.

I was thinking of using LegalZoom. Does anyone have any experiences with them?

If not, what do you suggest?

Also I realize that it takes around 12 months for the trademark to get effect.

What are the rules of putting up the small R on the logo and name before that 12 months? Is there a penalty?

Hi Alban,
I used LegalZoom for our trademark registration it it went very smoothly. It takes about 6 months for the review board to even look at the application and up to 6 months after that for the approval. You can not use the R until you are approved. For all of theses answers, and more, go to the USPTO web site, it's very informative. Did you do a trademark search yet? If not you can do that there too. Good luck!

i'm going on 1.5 years right now..... mine i almost finished..... prolly in a month or so i'll know if it's fully clear..

i had an issue with another "trademark" and was able to skate by it and make it happen....we'll see though....

make sure you understand how to search through the classes/subclassed and try to cross-reference everything....

my friends trademark was denied due to a challenging registration......

Also just wanted to add that you can use the TM mark while you are waiting for it to go thru but not the R.

i went through another company....cost me $150 to file.... and i think it's gonna cost me more once it's all official....

OK, I just checked my paperwork. LegalZoom charged me $169 plus $325 (Government fee). I was very happy with their work. If you start to apply for anything with them, do not finish processing. They will send you an email saying "finish your work" and you'll save $10.

Yes. I think you can also put in the name "patrick" and save $10. I listen to Sports talk radio and Dan Patrick has an exclusive offer for them.

Anyways, I guess around 500 dollars give an take.

Has anyone do it by themself?

you could...but i'm sure it'll be a PITA trying to figure out all the jargon and b.s. words/etc that needs to be in the form....

i didnt want to deal with it...so i paid.... figured it would take me longer trying to figure it all out than just pay

Yes. Good point. Time is money. I'd rather pay professionals do it than myself. Who knows what I end up doing with it haha.
