Default Inventory letters and numbers in computer

Ok,

I just received 2 inch and 2-1/2 inch letter sheets from transfer express. I'm using some to put names on the back of little league jerseys. I believe I read where most people charge per letter plus a dollar amount on top per shirt. Just checking to see if most of you inventory individual letters, ie 48 A's, 32 B's, etc. That way when you invoice for the letters it will take them out of your inventory. I just started using Quickbooks Pro so I am just figuring this stuff out.
I typically won't carry inventory except for things like this. I only order shirts as I get orders and that poses another issue. I'm not sure if I can simply create a free form invoice for printed tees since the system states I don't have inventory available. I guess when I receive the shirts, I put them into inventory so I can bill out the job.

I'm sure these issues aren't new to many of you.

Thanks in advance

If you don't want to tract your shirts in inventory, you have to set up your item "shirts" or whatever you track them by as a "non inventory part" in the "type" section. That way, it's not associated with an inventory item, but you can still track your income on shirts.

So, if you wanted to keep inventory on the letters/numbers but not the shirts, then you'd have to have separate lines on your invoice - one for the shirts, then one for each letter/number you put on the shirt.

Hope this helps

Yep that helps a lot. Once I get busier I may keep some shirts in stock, but when you get next day delivery on regular UPS, there's no need to stock it.
