Default May sound like a stupid question but....

Alright as it implies i tmight be a dumb one to ask but the dumbest are the ones you DON'T ask. Anyways, so I have kind of ingested a lot from this forum and realized two things, there are people who love this kind of thing and that selling t-shirts is one heck of a lot harder than the hillbilly who says he is going to retire by moving to the beach and selling random shirts for the rest of his life. My question is for people who are in this business in Ohio or just the US for that matter. What are the proper tax forms like the ID number and the vendor's licenses that I need to track down. Basically, for right now I am a one man band that is going to have to start small by just designing and outsourcing my printing then selling them via website or word of mouth. So basically, what paperwork do I need to get started. I do have a 4 year degree in business but it never really did cover starting one

You will need to get an EIN number from the IRS. And a state tax id from your state. To get the state I know in TN you have to get your business license.

It will depend a lot upon your state and how you want to do it. In Calif, this is what I did;
started at home
did not get...or need...an EIN...used my SSAN..that was okay with IRS/State
got business lic from City
got business permit from City..different office..needed permit because business was at home, zoned residential
filed DBA with local county
got resale lic from state office

all of the above is very easy..just contact your local authorities and see what is required where you live

In Ohio, you go down to the auditor's office to get a vendor's license, the IRS will give you an EIN, though you do not "need" one. I got that far, then moved to the mountains, so I can't help you after that! It's much different from state to state.
