If you are in the United States then you do not have the legal ability to contract until you are 18. This may or may not present a problem. If the name of your company has your name in it like "redcell1 enterprises" then you don't need to do anything. If you use a fictitious name, you file with your county as a dba. Also, check with your city to see if you need a business license to operate. Finally, you will need a sellers permit so you can pay sales taxes to your city/county/state. Check with your State for that information. Each on is different.

In Hawaii, I contacted the state department of taxation and they told me where to go to download the forms and instructions online. It only cost $20. The resellers permit, sole proprietorship and DBA are all part of the same form, so that made it easy. Of course, each state is different.

Sole proprietor was the cheapest and easiest way for me to go right now. I can always change my business type and/or incorporate in the future if the situation warrents.
