there is a lot of info on the forum....BUT remember all the comments are just opinions of individuals...and you should not take them as correct... but in general consider the following
Depending on your location..you may need
1-local business lic
2-local business permit..not same as lic...this is to permit you do do business from a residential location. Conditions vary from jurisdictions to jurisdictions
3- DBA if you are doing business under a name other than your own...ie 'amazing shirts' etc
4-sellers permit..goes by different names in different locales ..this is the permit that mandates you collect sales taxes on your sales and then periodically send these funds to the appropriate government office

Income taxes should be discussed with your own tax consultant...But if you are a sole proprietor, you would probably just include your expenses and profit on the appropriate tax form when you file your individual tax return. In that case, you don't have a W2 to worry about..

Just a few random thoughts, but you really need to spend a couple $ to get firm legal advice. Your local chamber of commerce might be a place to start...

You may also need the approval of your apartment management. Many apartments do not allow businesses to operate there. It is usually a matter of traffic, both deliveries and customers.

This may not be the case with you, or if it is and you are not actually selling goods right there you can usually get permission.

In Texas you will have to register to collect sales taxes and make timely reports, even if you collect no taxes. You will only be responsible for collecting sales taxes for sales made in Texas. Actually , deliveries made in Texas. If someone from Oregon orders from you an item to be delivered in Texas, you would charge sales tax. But, if someone in Texas orders something to be delivered in Oregon, you would not charge sales tax.

You should contact the local Dallas or county office where taxes are paid to find out about a business licese. You may also need to be checked out by the zoning folks. This is usually just another way to get some money from you.
