Very kool but vague because what is it using for inks?
Brothers inks? and do I hear work law suit echoing in head as this will be competition again 782?
Only way I see the being feasible if guy buys a used Brother to do white ink, as having two brothers basically cost same as one, and bet this machine doesn't suck white ink back in when not in use like 782 preventing clogs...
Good Ide but it just blows smoke in air, either you wear big boy pants and get 782 or cry way home just doing lights/white : )
I am one crying haha... As doing arks makes zero sense for me to do, just to much extra prep time/work unless you got Kornit
It would only be cost effective if you were to buy two used ones from ebay or something. But I'm wondering about more details on this concept like, do you need only one computer for each printer, do you need a rip program for the underbase and so on. But like Sean said its probably bettter to have the 782 because I bet those platens cost an arm & a leg plus you would probably need two to be productive. I only see this being good if you have a small shop and a 782 wouldn't fit in the building.
Cost wise, its more like spending $20,000 per GT-541 and $55,000 for 1 GT-782 excluding shipping, installation and tax.
If the following don't impact your decision then maybe this solution works for your business.
1. Slower production speed (due to the manual switching of platens)
2. Maximum platen size is 14 x 16
3. Possibly higher white ink costs due to different maintainence solutions between the GT-541 and GT-782
Saving anywhere from $10,000 to $15,000 depending on the platen cost and the space savings might make sense for some shops.
beside in gt-782 you make 2 shirts and like Sean said Before the problem with the white ink in the lines because gt-541 dosent have a sistem for the white ink, dosent just seat in the lines.Robert.
I was thinking more along the lines of how much it would cost me to upgrade to be able to add darks to my products.
I currently have a 541. So I have 2 choices, spend $60K on a 782, or get a used 541 and convert it to print white.
If I was starting from "no machine" then the 782 would probably be the better choice, but since I have one I would have to choose between spending $60K or $10K. Not a very hard choice. Depends on what costs are involved in converting to a "Polar Bear" or if you have to buy the machine from them.
It is an interesting idea, nice to know people are still working on it.
