Re: How to remove ink smudges The Brother uses water based inks, I'm unsure how well things can be removed once it's been heat set.
The main causes of smudges are generally the material is not level, or the material is hanging over the edge raised up a little. If the material's hanging over the edge and the head hits it, it'll usually leave a big mark on the side, and possibly a few marks elsewhere in the design.
If it does it really out of the ordinary, check your print head and make sure there's no buildup of loose cotton fiber. This happened on my machine, I didn't really understand it, as it was kind of just spitting randomly on the shirt, but what was happening: ink was traveling from the head to the cotton buildup which was then occasionally dripping on my shirt. I was surprised at how big the cotton buildup was, I carefully removed it with tweezers (it was actually on the left side of the print carriage deal) and cleaned the printhead with the swabs.
As for saving the garment, if the head hits the side, I try to only press the area necessary. My mother uses a spot remover for clothes and a sponger to try to get the ink out, if that fails, we'll toss it in the wash. |
