Re: Sawgrass Ink for Brother Machines - coming late February...
what point in getting them when Brother new big cart. OEM ink will be 30percent in savings?
Save more money and use there inks so you won't ruin your machine because..come on SAWGRASS?? they aren't a very good company
Re: Sawgrass Ink for Brother Machines - coming late February...
The only available Brother ink cartridges are the 220cc size, the same as the new Sawgrass Brother compatible cartridges we are now carrying. There are reports that Brother may introduce larger cartridges for their new larger printer when it comes out but there is no date on when that will be or any official pricing for those cartridges or if those cartridges will fit the current Brother printers.
Re: Sawgrass Ink for Brother Machines - coming late February...
Yes.. I spoke with Brother reps that confirms the same thing. But I would love to see if the Sawgrass ink are more brilliant that Brother inks.. We shall see!!!!
Re: Sawgrass Ink for Brother Machines - coming late February...
I was more than happy with Brother colors, you need to remember you are printing on fabric not glossy photo paper...
Fabrics saturate colors into fibers giving a dull effect...
I been doing all kinds of printing for a bit, kind of like a passion haha
Haven't tried but i think Harry has a pretreatment for light color shirts to make them POP
I wouldn't bother personally because takes to much time to do and you need to set it somewhere to dry or waste time flash drying with heat pressing .
For people that charge $18 or $22 for there garments than yea will be a great addition.
For my pricing structure and clients that I deal with, the extra efforts will not amount to nothing

True, but in this case it really is the Brother inks, not the cotton, that limits the amount of vibrancy you can achieve with this printer. I have been printing on cotton t-shirts (digitally) for several years now, and I have (in the past) been able to get a noticeable amount more pop from other ink sets. Although I gained so much in so many areas when I bought the Brother printer, I certainly sacrificed a small amount of vibrancy that IS possible to achieve by simply using a different ink set. Like I have said before, though; 25% savings is not worth it to me to "try" another ink set in this machine... First, because Brother WILL release the larger carts, soon, and it would be absolutely asinine if they were not compatible with the current printers. Second, because it feels like Sawgrass is only lowering the price "just enough" to try and bait Brother users... If you are going to release a competing ink brand that is supposed to replace an OEM's ink, especially to a "Brotherhood" that is not used to trying anything that did not come from the big corporate guys who made the printer, then you should SHATTER the previous ink costs, not just nudge them down a bit. I am quite positive that there is nothing so unique about these inks, that requires them to cost so much more than other brand of DTG inks. Yes, they are slightly more viscous than R&H or Dupont inks, but does that account for the large increase in price? I doubt it. My theory is that Brother has simply controlled their ink cost over the last several years, in an effort to make the most amount of money possible on consumables, and now Sawgrass sees the same opportunity to dig into Brother owners (who are already used to paying high prices for ink), so they release a knockoff ink for just a bit less than Brother is selling their's for, hoping to secure some of these cash cow Brother customers.
Of course, Sawgrass is ALREADY an expensive company to do business with, so maybe they are just staying in line with their existing practices? These are just my thoughts on the matter; it would take a 40-60% drop in existing ink prices for me to even consider giving a 3rd party ink a whirl, UNLESS someone came to me with sample prints that blew my mind. Since January 31st, when this thread was posted on both the major t-shirt forums, I have not seen a single sample print using these inks. To me, that indicates that nobody has seen any samples that were so good that they wanted to show the world, so I would not hold my breath for great things. Heck, even the people who are SELLING the inks haven't posted any sort of print samples, wash test results, etc, to give people a reason to switch. To me, no print samples in over 2 months is rather curious.
Harry; how would you feel about being the first to demonstrate the print capability of these inks? Do you have a Brother printer in-house that you have been testing with? How is the washability compared to the OEM inks? Do you have direct comparison shots to demonstrate the difference? If not, can you make some? It would really shed some light on what these inks are capable of. Thanks!
Re: Sawgrass Ink for Brother Machines - coming late February...
Typically, third party inks are 30 to 40 percent cheaper, unless they are bulk system..
I have always used OEM inks, just because it is not worth ruining a machine to save a few pennies..
I will get my machine Monday and I will reprint shirts I already have as samples to see color difference and post for people to see, when I was at the joint where I ordered the machines, I found that colors exceeded those of dupont inks... But major thing for me was, no need for tweaking of the colors.
I also was surprised that the Brother printed periwinkle and purples spot on compared to my Anajet that need it tweaked a thous. times to get color correct.
Major issue with using third party inks is that, it is not profiled properly for machine and one of main reasons I never got into it, EVEN though "Get this" I have color profile system worth over $5 bucks X Right Extreme spectrometer and Lacie Monitor and so on.. " To lazy to do it haha"
Re: Sawgrass Ink for Brother Machines - coming late February...
I have never supported the argument that people should not use 3rd party inks because "its not worth ruining a machine to save a few pennies". This is because it lends credence to the MYTH that 3rd party inks "ruin machines". Sure, there are SOME inks that MIGHT ruin your print head, out there. But do MOST? No. In fact, in the DTG world, most of the inks we use are considered "3rd party, non OEM" inks. Think about it; which type of printer has the largest market share? Epson based units. And are they running Epson inks through them....? No. Even in the last few years, it has become the norm in our industry to try different ink sets through different machines all the time! We've had R&H, DuPont, 3 different kinds of Kornit inks (all OEM, however), the Brother inks, Sawgrass inks, and more. I think it is a step back for people to be too scared to leave the OEM path, because of some vague possibility of ruining their machine. Besides, even a really bad ink would most likely only ruin things like dampers or printheads (and I don't think the Brother uses dampers, so that wouldn't even be an issue).
Back to the Brother inks, specifically; it surprises me that you were so blown away by the purple, of all colors... That is one that the Brother printer struggles with to no end. Also, blues usually don't come out nearly as accurately as I like. I agree that the Brother is the most reliable, and overall easy machine to use on the market. However, I still maintain that the colors could definitely be improved. If you take a look at ANY number of samples printed off the Brother, and hold them right up next to an image printed with the DuPont inks these days, I would be very doubtful that the Brother inks would actually pop more.... This is just from what I have experienced (and I have had my Brother printer for quite some time, now). Again, GREAT machine, make no mistake about it - I just wished they cared to tweak the inks just a bit more, since I KNOW they can be noticeably better.
Re: Sawgrass Ink for Brother Machines - coming late February...
Well don't forget when you use third party inks Voids warranty of the machine....
When I gave guy sample files that were purple, they came out great and I had a design with blues that I was impressed with to.
As for the image with purple, was a CMKY image to.. Not set at RGB
