Smile shirt alignment.....totes

hey all...
having a problem creating a fool proof image location technique. Our tech created a grid on the platen to use , but we can't see it with sand or darker shirts . just basic set up advice much needed. images to close to armpit, too low etc...

also , any advice on tote sources. Can we print on anything other than 100% cotton totes?

thanks alot ....great printer....if I can learn to use it

I printed a light grid on mine also, and had trouble reading it. I went over the lines with a heavy Sharpie Permanent marker and it helped a lot. Make sure it's dry first.

I don't really have any tote information though. I looked into it last month but could only find natural color and not white. Then my ADD kicked in and I started working on something else.

Good Luck,

Dennis

When I can't see the lines below, this is what I do: If I'm doing a left chest image I create a a cross hair in corel draw and center it over the image. I then print the image with the cross hair on a piece of paper, using low ink volume. Now that you have your template, place it on the shirt, sweatshirt and measure down and across where the cross hairs are and then move the image to the coordinating grid on your computer screen. I always design with a 1 inch grid on the screen so it is easy to match it up. This is the same technique that we use for the embroidery machines so it works well. Just make sure you remove the cross hair before printing on the garment!!

When we need super accurate printing we use a piece of clear plexi the size of the platen (14" x16", 10" x 12"). Lower the platen height to "C", Place the plexi so that it exactly matches with the platen, then print a light image of the graphic on the plexi. Remove the plexi, return the height to "A" or "B" place your garment and lay the plexi over the garment and adjust accordingly.

It can be a hassle but if you need really accurate printing this is one of the better methods.

Also remember to wash out the printed image after you are done or it may stained the plexi.

Hello,

I am newbie in the T-shirt business, on this forum, and english is my second language. So please, be gentle with me...

I also had difficulties with the image location with Brother GT-541 and here is what I did:

1.) Realized that one of the problems is that the grid is UNDER the shirt and difficult to see.
2.) I also hated using the expensive Brother ink to print out images for "targeting" purposes.
3.) I didn't want to modify the original design with any targeting pattern (e.g. crosshair) because I was sure that I forget to remove it.

So:

A.) I created a (14" x 16") grid in Corel.
B.) I bought a 14 x 16 piece of policarbonate sheet (plexi) at Home Depot for about $10.
C.) I had the grid laser-engraved on the plexi. (Actually I made a mirror image of the grid so the engaving could go to the bottom side of the transparent plexi.)

Now I have a (plexi) grid which is OVER the t-shirt not UNDER.

In our shop the computers are connected in a network and the laser printers too. I can print out any image from Corel with a black and white or a color laser printer to normal paper. It is very quick and cheep.

In Corel Draw I can always see the CENTER of the image by selecting it. At the same time on the Top Left corner of the screen I can read the EXACT coordinates of the center.

I put the grid-engraved plexi on the top of the t-shirt on the platen. The plexi and the platen are also 14" x 16" so the correct position of the plexi is always maintaned.

I put the printed paper-image on the top of the plexi to the location I want to print.

I KNOW the center of the image from the monitor, so I can read the coordinates from the plexi grid pretty accurately. E.g.: X=7.0" Y=9.3"

I go back to Corel, and WRITE this two coordinates into the Top Left corner of the screen. (X-Y)

I hit enter and the image JUMPS immediately to the correct position on the screen, and ready to print. It will be printed EXACTLY to the X-Y position.

This problem is solved, but the t-shirt's position ON THE PLATEN is still very inaccurate. I have no good solution for that one...
