Cool New Flexijet User

Hi,

I am new to the forum and have a few questions concerning quality and color using a Flexijet.

1. What is the recommended dpi/ppi for images supplied by customers from Photoshop, 300dpi, 150 dpi, etc?

2. What print resolution produces the best quality on a white T-Shirt? 1440x1440 is our current set-up printing unidirectional.

3. Can you pre-treat a white t-shirt to improve quality?

4. What is the best ink-set on the market today. I heard Dupont is not the best.

5. Has anyone made a custom ICC profile with a Spectrophotometer?

150 dpi is the recommended dpi for graphics supplied by your customers. Anything else is over kill.

2. What print resolution produces the best quality on a white T-Shirt? 1440x1440 is our current set-up printing unidirectional.

360E - Bi-directional - two-pass
720x720 - Uni-directional - one-pass (if dual CMYK)
**Adjust your press times to how you are printing, depending on the ink-set you are using**

3. Can you pre-treat a white t-shirt to improve quality?

Yes, but I never needed to.

4. What is the best ink-set on the market today. I heard Dupont is not the best.

I never used Dupont, always R&H (which is no longer made). However, I have heard good things about other after-market inks available now (see http://www.dtginks.com) .

5. Has anyone made a custom ICC profile with a Spectrophotometer?

I never did.

btw, was this machine purchased new or used? If new, read your warranty very carefully. If used, what type of machine and how much did you purchase it for?

Have fun with it!!

Eric

Welcome to the flexi community! There are some great people who own flexijets!

In answer to your questions:

1. What is the recommended dpi/ppi for images supplied by customers from Photoshop, 300dpi, 150 dpi, etc?

If the customer supplies images in the size they are to be printed, 150 dpi is fine. If you have to do much manipulation, ask for higher res images. There is also a big difference if the image is actually a Photoshop image or a jpeg. Always try to get Photoshop images.

2. What print resolution produces the best quality on a white T-Shirt? 1440x1440 is our current set-up printing unidirectional.

We print at 360e. We've never printed any t-shirt at 1440x1440. You will find the printing is much faster at 360e. Belquette at one point suggested that you will get better results if you print two layers at 360e than one at 1440x1440. We print dual color and find 360e to produce good results.

3. Can you pre-treat a white t-shirt to improve quality?

We've never found a need to do this. Some people do this though.

4. What is the best ink-set on the market today. I heard Dupont is not the best.
This is probably the hottest issue on the forums. It is the issue which touches companies pocketbooks. Responding to it often gets people's posts removed. Perhaps a survey of present users and the ink they use would give you some insight. We have wash tested the old R&H, Dupont, and DTGInks. Our conclusion was not to use the Dupont.

5. Has anyone made a custom ICC profile with a Spectrophotometer?

I don't know.

Steve

The answer is Yes... the manufacturer of the RIP, iProof Systems, has been making proofing RIPs for a long time. They have created ICC profiles for R&H, Dupont and AA inks.

If you want to create your own profiles for your specific media and/or inks, you can add them into the RIP using the module that comes built into the RIP. But you are going to have to use the linerazation (sp??) and curves that are built into the RIP already.

Best wishes with your new purchase.

Mark
