Just last night on another forum (car stuff) one of the lads put us on to a mail forwarding company in the U.S.A. For a fee and freight cost BongoUS.com will organise a mailing address in the states (Conneticut) collect your parcels that are directed to said address and after a short period box up the lot and forward to Oz.
Having a mailing address in the states means not only will you get the free freight offers to the lower 48 but also the coupon offers and special deals! And you can source a lot of supplies at cheaper rates than we normally pay top dollar for.
Just type in BongoUS.com and check it out for yourself. Cheers

BSJ, better to leave the glasses on and keep some mystery going..........
Also thanks for the useful post, I will look into this for next time I'm quoted exhorbitant freight cost from the US. I've lost count of how many times I've nearly bought equipment, vinyl, shirts or temp tattoo gear and then found out the price doubles once you work out the freight......Melbourne is on the same planet, isn't it?
There is so many things I would like to purchase over in the states but some companies don't ship to australia at all so this will come in very handy.
Also I remember about a year ago you could buy Adobe CS4 for US$600 but you had to have an address there. Missed out on that because I didn't have one.
One advantage with this system is that your forwarding shipper could get a good discount from the airlines for bulk cargo.
The disadvantage would be that it might take longer for you to receive your goods, plus maybe the extra postage from their office in OZ to your address.
Hi Uncle John, if I take off my sunglasses I won't look cool!
You being American means you don't have the hassles we foreigners have with getting products to our countries. Or that buying from local suppliers means you drop your trousers and bend over when it's time to pay. Well, maybe not all the time, but most of the time.
Same for car parts if you drive a Chrysler or Jeep.......or Chevy or Caddie.

BongoUS rates are expensive, even though they tout it as 50% off regular DHL rates. There are also reports (and I've experienced first hand) of them inflating the measurements/weights of packages thus inflating the shipping price. Another way they make money on top of the regular monthly fee. Far cheaper alternatives such as shipito.com.
