What printer is good for printing negatives for screen printing?
Hi, just wanna have some feedback of what brand/type of printer is good for printing negatives for screen printing. I am currently using an HP laserjet 1200 series printer. But I am having some problems aligning the registration marks. Most of the time, the registration marks are not aligned after printing. Are laserjet printers not good for this kind of task? Can you suggest a good brand of printer that is still on market (not yet phased out).
One more, is printing on tranparencies the same as printing on tracing paper? I've read in this forum that some uses tracing paper. Are the results of the exposed screen as good as the ones exposed with a transparency?
Re: What printer is good for printing negatives for screen printing?
It could be your software is causing the alignment issue. Which software are you using and describe your procedure to send the job to the printer. Also, how many colors is the design?

I don't think that it's the method that is causing the problem. I'm using adobe photoshop. I just hit on print, then click the checkbox of 'add registration mark'. I tried it on two colors. But even if I print the same picture twice, sometimes, they don't align. The print is inaccurate.
Ex. the picture on the first print is a little bit wider (streched) than the second one.

sir erwin, that's usually the issue when it comes to laser printer as laser printer produces heat thus shrinking the transparency paper..in order to resolve these issue never print on cold laser printer..let it standby for a couple of minutes to allow it to warm up then once you are going to print the transparencies be sure to print all your films immediately simultaneously to maintain same heat level on the printer..

Of course they are. Method is not the issue here, I think. The problem is I get inconsistent prints. Thanks for your prompt replies. What printer do you use sir?

Maybe it is better to use a non-laserjet printer. What printer (brand/model) do you prefer sir chard?
Re: What printer is good for printing negatives for screen printing?
if you are going to print on transparencies use dye based inkjet printers..dye based inks are blacker when printed in transparencies than pigment inks..pigment inks appear dull in transparencies..if you are going to print on tracing paper, use pigment ink because it is thicker therefore it will not smear and have capillary effect like when printed with dye based.

I use an EPSON TX200 but I cannot seem to print tranparencies - not without a paper backing similar to the more expensive ones sold at National Bookstore Store. I have to fold a 4-6mm flap on a tracing paper, insert the tranparency into that fold, and insert both into my printer before it will print the transparency or any other transparent substrate.
How much does a R1800 cost in the Philippines? It uses pigment ink so does that mean I can print heat transfer papers? How opaque does it print black? And do they have tranparencies in rolls?

The R1800 costs about 39K Php. and you can feed it with rolls. You can print upto 13" wide with it.
Epson already released their R1900 and it costs about the same. My only concern is if the R1900 has available CISS in the market.

Just came back from Octagon Computers and for pigment-ready printers, they only have the T60 (6-ink) at around 10K. But it prints only letter size paper. No epson printers that can print A3 or other larger than normal sized paper.
The Inknovation kiost outside Octagon say they only have CISS for the phased out 6-ink R230 and the entry level T10.
I am not prepared for the R1800 yet. Where can I find other epson printers and CISS systems?
